Great roads and fantastic scenery amongst the Mountains and fjords of Norway
This will be White Rose Tours fourth visit to Norway, each time we visit we learn a little more, and tweak the itinerary to pack in as much as possible. We will move daily with the exception of 2 x 2 night stops, one in Geirangerfjord and a second in Voss. This will give us the opportunity to unpack and have ride-outs to explore areas in more detail. We will also visit a new area - Rogaland - in the Southwest.
Riders should be aware that since the Harwich-Esbjerg ferry stopped operating, it is necessary to maximise our time in Norway by riding across Holland, Germany and Denmark using predominantly motorways. Nobody’s favourite, but it gets the job done. Although this tour is fully escorted, we suggest this tour is only suitable for experienced riders and pillions that have travelled on the continent before, can navigate independently, and have a head for heights!
The reward comes in the form of the shear magnificence of Norway with its vast landscapes, scenic Fjords and incredible roads. It really deserves its reputation of being one of the top places to visit in the World and I am already looking forward to visiting there in 2025.
Tour prices are inclusive of the following:

- Return Hirtshals to Kristiansand ferry
- GPX route files
- Services of experienced Tour Guide (Chris)
Not Included:

Accommodation
Accommodation choice in Norway can be rather limited especially in more isolated areas, however all the hotels we have selected have been chosen not only for their location but because they are of 3 or 4 star qualities, providing all the facilities you would expect of their rating. Many have leisure facilities which are also included in your visit. Two of the hotels are part of the Norwegian historic hotel group.
In order to keep your costs down we have included Breakfast and Evening Meals at every location. Many Evening meals will be a buffet selection, which will include a fish and meat dish.
The tour itinerary is based on a Hull to Rotterdam (see travel choice)
Saturday 6th September: today you will make your way to the departure port of your choice to catch either the P&O Hull-Rotterdam overnight ferry. An en-suite cabin (for 2) is included in your crossing. For those wishing to use the Eurotunnel instead of a ferry see Travel choice.
Sunday 7th September (350 miles): this is one of our longest day, but both ferries dock early morning giving us the full day to make good progress across Holland and Germany to your first night's hotel north of Hamburg. Here we will join up with any riders who have chosen the Eurotunnel route. Dinner, B&B.
Monday 8th September (300 miles): we continue our journey northwards leaving Germany and travel the full length of Denmark to our overnight stay near the Hirtshal ferry terminal. Dinner, B&B.
Tuesday 9th September (130 miles): we have literally yards to travel to catch our ferry which will take us over the Skagerrak to Norway. The ferry docks at Kristiansand midday, giving us our first opportunity to enjoy the Norwegian countryside as we travel northwards through the Setesdal Valley. Our overnight stop is at a 3 star hotel in a lovely riverside location. Dinner, B&B.
Wednesday 10th September (165 miles) : not a great mileage today but I have routed us via Rjukan, to the Industrial Workers Museum which was the former Hydro Electric plant responsible for producing heavy water for the German Nuclear programme. The heavy water plant was blown up by Norwegian resistance fighters and was the inspiration for the famous Kirk Douglas film ’Heroes of Telemark'. Recently the town as also become famous for placing mirrors on the hillside to refelect sunshine into the town square during winter months ! Our hotel tonight is a modern 3 star hotel in the Hallingdal region. Dinner, B&B.
Thursday 11th September (200-260 miles): number of routes you could take today but all pass the Jotunheimen National Park, home to Norway’s highest peaks, including Galdhopiggen the highest mountain in Norway. Our day ends at Geirangerfjord where your hotel sits along this beautiful Fjord. This will be your home for the next two nights. Dinner, B&B.
Friday 12th September (free day) There are numerous options for riding out from here, but one has to be what’s known as the 'Golden Route'. Along this route lies some of Norway's most popular attractions. The main one being the Trollstigen Mountain Road with a gradient of 10% and 11 breath-taking hairpins, it must be a road constructed by the trolls, just for bikers! Having reached the top you can descend to Linge where a ferry takes you across the Fjiord to Eidsdal. The road then climbs again, this time on the 'Eagles Road', which offers more stunning scenery to distract you before finally reaching the top where panoramic views down the Geirangerfjord await.
It is also possible to ride north to the 'Atlantic Coast Road'. Built on a series of islands and skerries the road uses several bridges to link everything together, creating a feat of engineering. The road is not very long but is on most peoples' bucket list, and some consider it to be one the 'must do' rides in the world.
Saturday 13th September (215-240 miles): again a number of options as we continue our journey down the west coast of Norway through the mountains and the Fjords of the area known as the Vestlandet. Crossing Sognefjorden, we end the day at a 4 star hotel with lake views in Voss. Dinner,B&B.
Sunday 14th September (free day): Voss is an ideal centre from which to tour. Top attractions include a visit to the World heritage centre of Bergen with its multi-coloured quayside buildings and funicular railway. A visit to the fantastic 182m Vøringfossen waterfall, riding the spectacular Flam railway or perhaps a full days tour of the Sognefjorden, Norway’s longest Fjord. If you fancy a day off the bikes, the Hangursbanen cable car offers fantastic views and is just 10 minutes walk away. Dinner,B&B.
Monday 15th September (205 miles): Turning southwards we cross the fantastic Hardanger Bridge to skirt the Hardangervidda National park with its tremendous views of Europe's largest high mountain Plaeau and the strangely shaped rock formation of Harteigenpass. The spectacular Latefoss waterfall is next, before turning southwest to explore Rogaland, an area we have not visited before. Our final nights stay in Norway is spent at a 4 star historic hotel. Dinner, B&B.
Tuesday 16th September (136 + 115 miles): our day starts with a ride down to Kristiansand to catch our ferry back to Hirstal in Denmark. On docking, we ride to our next overnight stop, a 4 star hotel near Aarhus. Dinner, B&B.
Wednesday 17th September (295 miles): all motorway today I am afraid, but the miles soon pass and we re-enter Germany to spend a night at hotel within walking distance of a traditional German Town. Dinner, B&B.
Thursday 18th September (250 miles) relatively easy ride today as we make our way back to Rotterdam to catch our respective ferries. Once again an en-suite cabin is included. Note: Rotterdam - Hull departs 2100 hrs. Anyone choosing to return via the Eurotunnel will have a considerably longer ride which may require a further overnight stay.
Friday 19th September having docked back in the UK we make our way home.
Take a look at the previous tour pictures in our picture gallery
The tour is based on a Hull to Rotterdam crossing. The ferry travels overnight so an en-suite cabin will be included.
Hull ferry sails 2000hrs returns 2030hrs.
We are happy to make arrangements for anyone wishing to travel via Eurotunnel, but due to the mileage involved from the tunnel to the first nights hotel (480 miles), we strongly advise that you travel out on Saturday 6th September and arrange accommodation for yourself overnight meeting up with the group on the Sunday. Likewise the last day Thursday would involve a journey of 393 miles so you may wish to arrange overnight accommodation on the continent or in the south of England. Costs will be adjusted accordingly.
As always, you may also make your own arrangements and we once again adjust costs accordingly.
Personal Travel & Breakdown Assitance Cover
On all European tours (including Southern Ireland) we require clients to take-out some form of Personal Travel and Accident/Breakdown cover. This is essential for repatriation of yourself and your motorcycle in the event of an accident or medical emergency. If you have an existing policy you should check that your company would repatriate your bike, even if undamaged, should you be unable to ride it (many do not!) .
We also strongly urge you to take out insurance that includes cancellation cover in the event of accident, illness or redundancy when you make your booking. Information on such companies can be found on our insurance page http://www.motorcycletours.co.uk/more/travel-insurance.html
