Lakes, and Mountains - a great tour in Bavaria, Austria, and Slovenia

This tour takes in Bavaria, Austria and Slovenia three countries that offer fantastic scenery, brilliant biking roads and great accommodation.

We start our tour with either an Eurotunnel or Hull crossing to an overnight stop in France. Having crossed into the Champagne region we take to the back roads and into the Vosges Mountains to ride some of the 'Route des Cretes'. This road, most of which is above 3000ft, was mainly built to supply front line French troops during WW1. However, due to its twisty undulating nature, has today, become a mecca for motorcyclists. Fom the high Cols you can enjoy views across the Alsace plains to our next destination, the German Black Forest.

From here we ride through one of the most scencic parts of europe as we twist and turn over the German-Austrian Alps to a two night stop allowing us to explore Bavaria before riding to the Triglav National Park.

Suitable refreshed we return through the Italian Dolomites and Austrian Passes for a final night in central France before heading to the crossing of your choice.

Although the tour has rest days, it will involve some long days and technical mountain roads, we therefore recommend it primarily for experienced riders who have ridden on the continent before.

This is an Escorted Tour which means that although the guide will be with you, you are responsible for doing your own navigation. We provide a Tour Pack which will include a full itinerary, suggested route directions, Gpx waypoints and hotel location. This system suits many people, as it allows them to ride at their own pace and style, either alone or in small groups. However, if you prefer, you may ride with the guide, who will act as your escort throughout the tour.

Tour prices are inclusive of the following:

The tour itinerary is based on a Northern crossing with the option* to use a Southern crossing which will shorten the tour by two days. (see departure choice)

Wednesday 9th July : For those using the Northern crossing, you should make your way to Hull to catch the P&O overnight ferry to Rotterdam. You are able to board late afternoon, allowing you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the great onboard facilities. A 4 berth en-suite cabin (for 2) is included in your crossing.  The ferry will dock approx 8.30am the following morning, giving you the full day to make your way to you overnight stop near Troyes. (343 miles).

Thursday 10th July (250 miles): Those using the Southern crossing should arrive in time for a morning departure for their journey across France. Whichever crossing you have chosen, we will all meet-up and get to know one another at our first night's stop, a 3 star hotel in the Champagne region. 3 Star, Dinner, B&B

Friday 11th July (280 miles): Time to head for the hills and enjoy the diverse scenery of the Vosges Mountains. We enjoy the roads favoured by the 'Tour de France' before dropping to the flat fertile plains of the Rhine Valley.  Having crossed the Rhine, we ride eastwards through the southern Black Forest to our next destination on the shores of Lake Constance in the German Black Forest. 3 Star, Dinner, B&B.

Saturday 12th July (285 miles): Today you get to ride some fantatstic roads, with mind bending scenery as we ride the Deutsch Alpen Strasse. Ever popular with the BMW owners annual meeting, the road twist and turns over German-Austria border with the fairy tale Neuschwanstein castle worth a visit. It takes us to our 2 night stop in the Bavarian Alps. 4 star, B&B

Sunday 13th July (Free day): The 2 night stay gives you chance to rest and visit the local attractions with the obvious attraction been a trip to the Kehlsteinhaus, more commonly known as the 'Eagles nest'. A gift to Hitler for his 50th birthday from the Nazi party and now repurposed as a resteraunt high up in the Obersalzburg. There's also plenty of other attractions on offer, with a ride out to Lake Konigssee or into the local mountains. 4 star, B&B

Monday 14th July (195 miles) : Today you get to ride some fabulous roads as we head south through the Hohe Tauern National Park. There is a choice of routes, with the opportunity to ride the famous Grossglockner pass. Although a toll road, your money is well spent as you enjoy 48 kilometres of high alpine road with 36 bends, and an altitude ascent to 2,504 metres!   Enroute you will get to see the highest peak in Austria, the Grossglockner (3,798m) and its glacier, the Pasterze.

Your hotel tonight is set in a small ski town under the shadow of Mt. Triglav, you can enjoy the hotel facilities, which include a fitness centre containing a sauna, steam bath, solarium, and swimming pool.  4 star hotel, Dinner, B&B.

Tuesday 15th July (free day):  The 2 night stay allows you to unpack and relax. You can make use of the hotels facilities, take a walk into town or take a ride -out into Austria or the Triglav National Park.

Wednesday 16th July (185 miles) :Time to leave Slovenia as we head eastwards with a choice of routes either over the 50 Serpentines of the Vrsic pass in the Triglav National Park , or the more direct route and into the Italian Dolomites.  The day finishes at Bolzano in the southern Tyrol. 3 star hotel, Dinner, B&B, garage.

Thursday 17th July (150 miles): Again a number of routes you can take however, the favourite must be the chance to ride the 'Timmelsjoch' (2474m) as the pass winds it way over the Otztal mountains taking you from Italy into Austria. If you have some energy left, the 'Silvretta pass' (2036m) must be next, what it lacks in height, it makes up with scenery and some great roads. Whichever route you take, our day ends at a hotel on the Austrian/Geman border. 4 star hotel,  B&B

Friday 18th July (250 miles) : Continuing westwards we pass the shores of Lake Constance to our final nights stop in the Lorraine region. Dinner, B&B

Saturday 19th July : Today, we say goodbye to our fellow riders as we leave for the ferry port of our choice. Those using the Southern crossing (315 miles) will be at Calais in time for a late afternoon crossing, whilst those on the Northern crossing (310 miles) head for Rotterdam and their overnight ferry.

Sunday 20th July :  The ferry docks at 0900hrs, giving us time to have breakfast before making our way home.

With customers from the whole length of the UK and Ireland, we understand that many of our northern clients dislike the ride down to the channel ferry ports – likewise it does not make sense for our many clients from the south to ride north to join a tour at Hull. Therefore, where possible, we arrange the first and last night’s hotel to be within similar riding distance of both Calais & Rotterdam.

For your increased comfort we have arranged more spacious 2/4 berth cabins (for 2) on all P&O Hull-Rotterdam crossings, and clients using the Southern crossing will have the convenience of crossing the channel using the Eurotunnel service.

Note:
The tour will be 2 nights shorter for those customers using the Eurotunnel and they will depart
Thursday 10th July and return Saturday 19th July.

As always, you may make your own arrangements and we will adjust costs accordingly.

Personal Travel cover and  Breakdown Assistance Cover

On all European tours (including Southern Ireland) we require clients to take-out some form of Personal Travel and Accident/Breakdown cover. This is essential for repatriation of yourself and your motorcycle in the event of an accident or medical emergency. If you have an existing policy you should check that your company would repatriate your bike, even if undamaged, should you be unable to ride it (many do not!) .

We also strongly urge you to take out insurance that includes cancellation cover in the event of accident, illness or redundancy when you make your booking.
