Battlefields tour 2016
Just returned from an excellent tour of the World War 1 Battlefelds
To be honest I was not sure what to expect, I know most of us have seen documentaries on the TV and names like the Somme, Passchendaele evoke memories of World War 1, but nothing quite prepared me for the scale of devastation and loss of life that occurred in what became known as the Great War.
All this was brought alive by Martin our guide who was brilliant – during the 4 days we were there he led us from cemetery to Battlefield, underground bunker to trenches. Informative and witty he had us spellbound as he relayed the history and events that took place.
As motorcycle tours go, hardly any mileage, I think we walked more! but was a great way to get from A to B and I think Martin being a biker himself enjoyed taking us around the Battlefields.
A very relaxing tour for me, letting someone else lead for a change, we had excellent weather (despite having the rain man Jersey Geoff with us), good hotels and some great meals. Thanks to Graham and Charlie for tail - end duties and Olwen for being tour photographer after my camera failed again – looks like a replacement is in order.
